Kerr介质中双原子-压缩真空场系统的腔场谱

研究了含Kerr介质腔中耦合双原子间与双模均处于压缩真空态的光场拉曼相互作用过程的腔场谱.通过求解本征方程导出了双模光场处于任意强度时腔场谱的计算公式,给出了数值计算结果.发现在两模初始场均为弱场时,Kerr介质和原子间的耦合作用对谱结构的影响较小;当双模初始场均为强场时,两模主峰的右侧出现了半梳状边峰,随Kerr效应的增强,峰间距逐渐加宽,并向高频方向扩展,在Kerr效应较强时,两模边峰的峰高出现高低相间的现象.     

负五阶非线性下预啁啾高斯光脉冲的啁啾和频谱

为探究光纤负五阶非线性和光脉冲预啁啾对高斯光脉冲频率啁啾和频谱的综合影响,在忽略光纤色散的情况下,利用包含三五阶非线性的扩展非线性薛定谔方程,计算和分析了啁啾高斯脉冲的频谱和总啁啾。结果表明,脉冲无预啁啾时,负五阶非线性的存在可使脉冲频率啁啾的形状由单“S”形变为双“S”形,并使脉冲的中心附近由正啁啾变为负啁啾。此外,负五阶非线性的存在使预啁啾对脉冲频谱的影响发生了较大的变化。预啁啾与非线性所致啁啾叠加后对脉冲频谱的谱峰数目影响较小,而对能量在各个谱峰上的分布影响较大,在某些最大非线性相移下,甚至会出现总啁啾减小使谱峰值数目增加的情况。该研究对光开关、光脉冲压缩以及光纤通信系统等领域的深入发展具有一定的指导意义。     

非线性物理破解神经编码机制

信息在神经系统中以脉冲点序列的形式传输和处理，神经系统如何通过脉冲点序列对所表达的信息进行编码，一直是一个谜．人们曾普遍认为，神经可能通过发放率（单位时间发放脉冲出现的次数）对信息编码，也有人猜测，神经可通过脉冲点序列的时序编码．由于神经发放的随机性，这就使得任何编码机制都面临着被表达信息的确定性与表达该信息的信号的随机性的矛盾．通过神经非线性随机动力学模型，文章作者发现，神经点序列的发放率对点序列的时序信息传输的影响，揭示了神经点序列时序信息在神经非线性传输中的随机共振特征．由此预期，并进一步通过听觉心理物理实验观察到，在一定条件下噪声对听觉的增强作用．从而通过非线性物理揭示了听觉时序编码机制的存在以及在时序编码中随机性噪声的积极作用．     

梯度折射率非局域介质中空间孤子振荡行为研究

应用等效粒子近似方法研究了光学空间孤子在带有局域和非局域非线性横向非均匀介质中的传输动力学行为.发现孤子在传播过程中横向的周期性振荡.折射率调制幅度和波导的归一化宽度决定了振荡周期的大小.介质的非局域对振荡振幅有着较小的影响.模拟了孤子传输过程,所得数值结果与理论分析符合很好.此外,模拟传输还发现多孤子束缚态能够在这个模型中稳定传播.这种振荡特性或许可以应用于光学路由器、转换器、开关等.     

向列相液晶中强非局域空间光孤子的实验观察

通过实验对向列相液晶中的非局域空间光孤子的传输进行了研究。理论上基于非线性的液晶孤子传输方程,采用高斯形式的试探解,得到了孤子传输的解析解,以及对液晶中的非局域孤子和Snyder等提出的强非局域孤子模型的结果进行了比较。实验上,观察了空间光孤子在向列相液晶中的传输,找到了不同束宽下空间光孤子的临界功率。比如束宽为2μm时临界功率为2.0mW。观察了向列相液晶中空间光孤子的弛豫过程,并注意到液晶分子的响应时间长达几秒钟,液晶中的孤子形成速度较慢。     

Molecular parameters describing intermolecular interactions in the electrooptical Kerr effect

Electrooptical Kerr effect has been studied in binary solutions of a dipolar liquid (-picoline, β-picoline) in a non-dipolar solvent (benzene, p-xylene) and 1,4-dioxane in the full range of concentrations of the dipolar component (0 ≤ f₂ ≤ 1). The experimental Kerr constant K_s of the solutions, refraction index n_s, density ρ_s and the dielectric constant ε_s have been measured and used for the calculation of the molar Kerr constants K_S^M within the Onsager local field model. Analysis of changes in the molar Kerr constants as a function of the solute concentration by fits of theoretical functions to the experimental ones has permitted a determination of the parameters characterizing intermolecular interactions in binary solutions.     

Nonlinearity management and diffraction management for the stabilization of two-dimensional spatial solitons

The nonlinear Schrödinger equation which governs the dynamics of two-dimensional spatial solitons in Kerr media with periodically varying diffraction and nonlinearity has been analyzed in this paper using variational approach and numerical studies. Analytical expressions for soliton parameters have been derived using variational analysis. Variational equations and partial differential equation have been simulated numerically. Analytical and numerical studies have shown that nonlinearity management and diffraction management stabilize the pulse against decay or collapse providing undisturbed propagation even for larger energies of the incident beam.     

10 Gbps optical soliton transmission link using in-line SOA on standard SMF at 1.3 μm

In this paper, 10 Gbps optical soliton transmission link using in-line semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs) for already installed standard single mode fibers (SMF) at 1.3 μm wavelength has been reported. The pattern effect and the impact of chirp on pulse propagation after amplification have been investigated. The observations are based on modeling and simulation optical soliton transmission link. Optical soliton pulse transmission over distances of the order of several hundreds of kilometers has been shown with and without initial chirp.

Modeling structural recovery in glasses: An analysis of the peak‐shift method

Amorphous polymers below their glass‐transition temperature are inherently not at equilibrium. As a result, their structures continuously relax in an attempt to reach the equilibrium state. The current models of structural recovery can quantitatively describe the process. One of the parameters needed for the models is the nonlinearity parameter x. It has been proposed that x can be obtained from experimental data with the so‐called peak‐shift method. In this work, we use the Tool–Narayanaswamy–Moynihan model to identify the factors that determine the accuracy of the peak‐shift method and to quantify the errors in the value of x obtained from the peak‐shift method. In addition, we determine the influence of the error in x on the evaluation of the nonexponential model parameter β. Finally, the peak‐shift method is compared with the traditional curve‐fitting method for model parameter determination. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
